Dermal Fillers
Restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours
What Is A Dermal Filler Injection?
Dermal filler injections are gels containing a form of Hyaluronic Acid – a naturally occurring substance in our bodies which helps retain moisture in our skin. As we age, the skin loses elasticity causing wrinkles and sagging skin. Dermal fillers are injected beneath the skin’s surface to smooth wrinkles, add volume and also contour.
Where Can Dermal Filler Injections Be Used?
Dermal Filler is commonly used in the lips, cheeks, tear troughs, and deep lines near the nose and mouth amongst other treatments for example the nose, jaw and the chin.
Do Dermal Filler Injections Hurt?
The injections contain a local anaesthetic which reduce any associated pain. Most treatments do not require further anaesthetic. The lips however are a sensitive area, and it is not uncommon to apply numbing cream before lip treatment with dermal filler.
How Long Does The Treatment Take?
This varies depending on the area being treated. For one area it is roughly 15-20 minutes. The appointment however is longer to allow for consultation, consent and any numbing cream to take effect.
Is There Any Downtime?
You will be given an aftercare leaflet at the treatment. You can expect some swelling and possible redness/bruising at the site of the treatment. Most of the swelling will settle by 48-72 hours for most people.
How Quickly Will I See Results And How Long Do They Last?
Results are immediately visible. It is possible to see further improvement over the two weeks following treatment. Results can last 6– 12 months for lip filler and upto 22 months for other areas of the face such as the cheek.
Can You Have Dermal Filler Injections If You Are Pregnant or Breastfeeding?
It is not considered safe to have Dermal Filler Injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Are There Any Risks?
There are smaller risks such as an allergy or infection, and much rarer but more serious risks which will be explained to you during the consultation.
What If I Am Not Happy With The Result?
If it is felt more filler is required, it can be injected at an additional cost to you. If you are not pleased with the end result in any case, you may wait for it naturally wear off, or the filler can be reversed with a different injection which would come as a cost to you. The key to avoiding this scenario is injecting small amounts of filler at a time in the first instance, which is the approach taken at ADS.
