Dermaplaning Facials
Remove peach fuzz and dead cells on the surface of the skin to reveal instantly smooth skin in pursuit of that glow with this popular and simple procedure that is quick, chemical free and highly effective
What Is a Dermaplaning Facial?
A dermaplaning facial is a simple and safe procedure which has more than one benefit. It
can be used for gently exfoliating (removing dead cells from) the epidermis which is the
outer layer of the skin, adding brightness to the complexion. It also removes fine vellus hair
(peach fuzz) which immediately smoothens and allows for a much smoother application of
topical products such as skin care or makeup.
How is Dermaplaning Facial Carried Out?
At ADS a dermaplaning facial will start with a consultation to ensure your suitability for the procedure. Once the skin is properly prepped with a cleanse, it is held softly taught by the practitioner who gently scrapes the blade at a 45 degree angle. It is not painful and has been described by multiple clients as relaxing. This is followed by a further cleanse with a light facial massage, application of a hydrating mask followed by an application of an SPF 30.
Will The Hair Grow Back Thicker And Darker After Dermaplaning?
No, it is not expected to.
Which Areas Can have Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is only performed on the face (excluding the eyes and the lips).
How Long Does The Treatment Take?
No longer than a one-hour appointment allows for the consultation, treatment and pre/post skin care.
Is There Any Downtime?
There is no downtime and you are able to apply makeup immediately if desired. Some clients do experience a little redness/blotchiness after the treatment but this usually subsides quickly and should not last longer than 48-72 hours at most. You will be provided information about your aftercare at your treatment.
How Quickly Will I See Results And How Long Do They Last?
Results are instantly visible. As the skin sheds as part of the normal skin cycle, you are expected to notice it will not have the same after treatment glow by 2-4 weeks. This can vary from person to person. Repeated treatments result in longer term benefits for the skin.
How Often Can You Have The Treatment?
Dermaplaning can be carried out every 3 to 4 weeks. It can be done as a one off for a special occasion, or more regularly 4 to 6 weekly for longer term skin benefits.
Are There Any Pre- Treatment Requirements?
We do not recommend treatment during an acne breakout, or for clients who suffer with acne unless it is very mild. You should not use Retin-A or other exfoliating creams 72 hours prior to your treatment. You must avoid sun tanning products for at least a week before treatment. You must not have recently had laser surgery or used Accutane in the last year. Clients who have had a recent chemical peel or other skin procedure such as anti-wrinkle or filler injections, should wait two weeks before receiving a dermaplaning facial and two weeks after if planning on anti-wrinkle or dermal filler injections. You should also refrain from waxing the skin to be treated for at least 72 hours prior to dermaplaning. Clients must not have an active cold sore at the time of treatment.
Are There Any Risks?
The skin may feel sensitive for the first 72 hours and blotchiness can be normal for the first few days. Some clients may experience a mild peeling of the skin for a few days. Like any procedure there is a risk of infection. As a minor surgical blade is being used, there is a small risk of a cut to the skin during the treatment – this is not expected to happen due to the angle the treatment is carried out but is still a risk.
Can You Have Dermaplaning Performed If You Are Pregnant Or Breastfeeding?
Yes, it is considered to be safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding and can often make a lovely treat for yourself if you are pregnant, or a gift for pregnant family/friends who are usually unable to have numerous other treatments during pregnancy.
